Funded opportunities for educators to explore India with a view to building short-term faculty-led study abroad programs. All participants will be expected to express their preference for one or more of the three programs described below:

  • Program 1: Rural Public Health. Cities to be visited include Bangalore, Mysore, Nagpur, and Pune.
  • Program 2: Social Change & Entrepreneurship. Cities to be visited include Chennai, Madurai, Hyderabad, and Pondicherry.
  • Program 3: Culinary Arts, Healthcare, Food Security, Markets, & Social Change. Cities to be visited include London, Wellbeck, Bangalore, and Coorg.

Further details on the three programs can be found on Manodharma. Itineraries will be posted in October and will be periodically updated until December 15, 2018.

Participants are not expected to have any prior background in an Indian language, India’s history or culture. Manodharma is interested in identifying committed faculty known for their teaching excellence who are eager to explore an international dimension to their own interests that have the potential to benefit a broad group of their students and other faculty on their campus. We also expect their institution to support their future interests in launching faculty-led study abroad programs in India.

Manodharma travel grant will cover only expenses for the 2-week immersion trip within India. International travel not included in grant.

Global citizens interested in transformative social impact tourism are also invited to apply. They will be admitted based on availability of seats and for a fee of $4,500 (exclusive of international airfare).

Eligibility: UK institutions eligible although this opportunity originates in the US.

The deadline for applications is 22 October 2018

Programs take place December 2018 and January 2019

  • A brief statement (<150 words) highlighting how the Manodharma Travel Grant will benefit you in your own teaching and research interests in a cross-cultural context, highlighting prior related experiences, if any.
  • A brief statement (<150 words) on your passion for getting your students involved in new learning environments, including a narrative of related prior experiences
  • A statement of support from the Chair/Dean of your academic unit and/or the Office of International/Global programs on your campus, highlighting a commitment to your future faculty-led study abroad program in India, with sufficient financial and marketing support. Please attach as PDF.
  • A 3-page curriculum vita highlighting only items of relevance to this travel grant.
