About the research
In the centenary year of the Common Travel Area (which protects the free movement of people and goods across Ireland and the UK), we recognise that there has been an uneven and somewhat volatile enrolment pattern in UK students at Irish higher education over the last number of years. Conversely, Ireland is now the UK’s largest EU market for new enrolments to higher education institutions.
This is why the British Council in Ireland and the British Embassy in Dublin have published the Higher Education Mobility Report on HE student flows between the UK and Ireland.
This research explores the factors that UK students take into consideration when making the choice to study in Ireland and helps to throw some light on the motivations and factors that affect UK students’ choice to study in Ireland. It includes surveys and in-depth interviews with UK and Irish students; and also tracks and analyses trends time in student flows between the UK and Ireland with data reflecting a period from 2017-2022. The report can be accessed here.
In addition to the research, British Council Ireland has also produced a Higher Education Information Guide: UK Ireland, which offers students (and universities) free useful information and links to support higher education mobility. The guide can be accessed here.
