The British Council has partnered with NISAU UK (National Indian Students and Alumni Union UK) to celebrate UK alumni's achievements in India and globally. To this end and to mark India’s 75th anniversary of independence, 75 Indian UK alumni who have made an important contribution to their profession and society will be felicitated in a gala ceremony on 10 December 2022.
The British Council aims to raise awareness about UK alumni’s contribution, work, and impact in India and globally through this event and it will also be an opportunity for UK higher education institutions to raise their profile among students and key stakeholders. NISAU’s Achievers Programme will also facilitate conversations around key global topics with UK alumni and showcase India-UK cross culture relationship and education.
UK higher education institutions are requested to support in -
- Share the call for nominations and Achievers digital campaign using relevant networks such as your alumni associations, India/South Asia Teams, staff, current students, influencers.
- Verification of the shortlisted finalists as being confirmed alumni of your university for the relevant programme of study as submitted by the applicants during the nomination process, within the programme timescales. This will be shared with you by NISAU.
- Nominating a senior individual from your university to join the Gala Ceremony on 10 December 2022 in New Delhi. Travel costs will have to be borne by the university.
- Your university may wish to submit nominations for any of your deserving alumni as you deem suitable.
Nominations will open worldwide in October 2022 for Indian alumni and current students to put their name forward or nominate a friend or family member. The process of selection will be publicised through various media, including involving engagement in both countries at senior levels. We expect this to be of major interest to students and families considering study in the U.K., as well as Indian alumni and the media. The results of the nomination process will be declared by NISAU at a gala ceremony in New Delhi on 10 December 2022 which is expected to be attended by important stakeholders including ministers, vice chancellors, business leaders and celebrities among others.
The celebration of these 75 Achievers and their work will also culminate into a sector-wide activity to engage prospective students with HEIs, inspiring and encouraging them to choose the UK as their destination of choice.
