As part of the 3rd UK-China High-Level People-to-People Dialogue and the 8th UK-China Education Summit, the British Council is delighted to invite representatives from the UK education sector to attend a Forum on UK-China Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which will be held in Cardiff on 18 September 2015. The event will be opened by distinguished speakers from both UK and China.
Background
Over the past three decades, the UK and China have enjoyed a flourishing relationship built on the exchange of commerce, people and ideas. Education is a cornerstone of this relationship, with more than 90,000 Chinese higher education students studying in the UK in the most recent academic year, and more than 250 UK-China joint programmes, institutes and campuses in China at the degree level and above.
However, if the UK and China are to overcome the growing challenges brought by ageing populations, shrinking labour forces and global environmental issues, this cooperation needs to be expanded even further. In order to build a prosperous and sustainable future, jointly increasing capacity for innovation is a crucial step.
- How can institutions in the UK and China work together to support the exchange of expertise and resources among departments, researchers and scientists?
- How can we strengthen university-industry links that leverage the talents found in both economies to develop new technologies and products?
- How will greater engagement in these areas benefit the development of international education for both countries?
These questions and many more will be addressed in the Forum on UK-China Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
