Background information on Dong Zong, MICSS and UEC Qualification
United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong) is a non-profit organisation that leads the development of Chinese Education in Malaysia. Dong Zong was established on 22 August 1954 (please refer to the link from page 18 to 36 for additional details, https://www.dongzong.my/infobook/DZ-Profile/mobile/index.html#p=18) The MICSS are non-profit making institutions and are completely maintained by the Malaysian Chinese community itself. The main medium of instruction used in these schools is Mandarin, however, English and Malay are compulsory subjects. In these schools, students go through three years of Junior Middle and three years of Senior Middle secondary education. UEC is the unified examination for Senior Middle Three students. For many years now, the UEC has been recognized for entry into more than 1,000 universities and colleges all over the world, including those in Australia, U.K., Ireland, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mainland China, Japan, New Zealand and U.S.A. In addition, some world-renowned universities provide scholarships specially reserved for MICSS graduates with the objective of attracting outstanding UEC students. These universities included Tsinghua University (Mainland China), Hong Kong Baptist University (Hong Kong), and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (Japan) among others.
