Hunan Normal University is seeking a UK university partner to establish a Sino-UK joint institute and deliver undergraduate courses in sports, with high standards of innovation and research.
The proposed subject areas are particularly strong courses at Hunan Normal University and also meet local and national industry needs. They are:
- Sports Leadership and Development
- Football Coaching and Performance
- Football Coaching, Development and Administration
- Rugby Coaching and Performance
- Sport Psychology
- Sport and Exercise Science
- Sports Coaching
- Sports Studies
- Strength and Conditioning
The final selection of courses provided by the joint institute are to be decided jointly by Hunan Normal University and the UK partner university.
About the Sino-UK Joint Institute
- The joint institute will be located at the Zhanggongling campus of Hunan Normal University.
- The institute will consist of built infrastructure with floor space of 25000 square metres, including teaching buildings and a comprehensive gymnasium, standard ground track field, football pitch, track and field training hall, martial arts hall, tennis court, and natatorium.
- The universities could discuss the nature and details of the partnership, including the partnership model, curriculum mapping and curriculum design.
- Enrollment of students in Hunan Province can only start once the joint institute has been approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education, which can take up to six months. Hunan Provincial Education Department will endorse the application of the Joint Institute to be submitted to the Chinese Ministry of Education.
Enrollment and Degree
The Joint Institute aims to have enrolled 120 students in full-time study by the end of its fourth year. Students will receive a dual Bachelor’s degree from the UK and Chinese universities upon successful completion of four years of study.

About Hunan Normal University
Founded in 1938, Hunan Normal University is a member of “Project 211” in Hunan. It ranked No. 3 in Hunan and 81 in China (Wu Shulian Ranking of Comprehensive Universities 2016). It comprises seven campuses and 36,000 full-time students, including 9,000 graduates and over 1,000 international students.
The university has a strong interest in international exchange and has a student exchange program with Birmingham City University.
