Fujian Medical University (FMU) is looking for UK partners to develop and deliver joint undergraduate programmes (3+1 / 4+0) with single / double degree in the fields of Clinical Medicine, Ophthalmology & Optometry, Pharmacy, Public Health, Nursing, Rehabilitation, Medical Imaging, or Psychology with the aim of recruiting up to 60 students per year.

This is an opportunity for the selected UK partners to establish long-term partnerships with one of the top medical universities in Fujian, China with potential for expansion into other fields, such as student and faculty exchange programmes or joint research.

Areas of responsibility for the two collaborating parties

The selected UK partners will be expected to work with Fujian Medical University to:

  • develop the curricula for the joint programmes
  • provide qualified teaching staff for the joint programmes
  • provide support in the quality assurance of the programmes
  • issue bachelor’s degree to students

Chinese University will be responsible for:

  • promoting and recruiting students for the programmes
  • providing qualified teaching staff as well as the required teaching premises and logistical support for the joint programmes
  • supporting prospective students in preparation to study in the UK as part of the programmes

About Fujian Medical University (FMU)

FMU is located in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, which lies on the southeastern coast of China. Fuzhou is the Capital City of Fujian Province. Founded in 1937, FMU is one of the first public undergraduate medical universities in China. FMU ranks 162nd in ARWU Chinese University Rankings 2022 (21st among Chinese medical universities). Now FMU is regarded as training center for medical health personnel, research center for medical science and service center for healthcare in Fujian province.

FMU has over 18,000 students. FMU students are well known for top-ranked passing rate in the National Medical Practitioner Qualification Examination, especially for those majoring in Clinical Medicine, Stomatology, Preventive Medicine and Nursing. The students majoring in Clinical Medicine have been awarded the first prize in the East China competition area of National Clinical Skills Competition for College Students of Medical Colleges and Universities for seven consecutive years. In the ESI global ranking, six disciplines of FMU including Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Chemistry, Neuroscience and Behavior, Biology and Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology and Genetics, rank among the top 1%.
