The British Council in the Kuwait is planning to organise a visit by engineering academics from leading UK universities on 27 and 28 November 2013.

Since engineering continues to grow in popularity as a degree programme of choice for Kuwait-domiciled students, the ultimate goal of the study tour is to help Kuwait stakeholders develop a greater appreciation of the strengths of a UK engineering education so that they actively encourage more students to study engineering in the UK rather than another country. According to HESA statistics more than 50 per cent students from Kuwait opted for engineering degrees, and since scholarships to UK have doubled recently, it makes an ideal place for student recruitment and collaborations with local institutions.

In order to achieve this, we would meet with scholarship agencies, education agents and educational institutions with the aim of helping them to understand the structure and content of UK engineering degrees, opportunities for post-graduate study, and career prospects. During the tour the academics representing their respective institutions will get a chance to present at Kuwait University research department during a seminar in area of expertise, as Kuwait university is looking for potential collaborations with the UK institutions on various engineering discipline research topics.

Universities will need to be able to release engineering academics to present on one of the following priority areas of the Kuwaiti market:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • Electronic & Electrical Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Petroleum Engineering
  • Automotive Engineering
  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Nuclear Engineering
  • Agricultural Engineering

We are suggesting a one-week visit to include:

  • Briefing meeting with British Council
  • Briefing meeting with the scholarship agencies in Kuwait
  • Briefing meeting with education institutions in Kuwait
  • Briefing meeting with education agents and school counsellors in Kuwait
  • Open public road show on both evenings and the opportunity for scheduled one-to-one meetings with education agents in Kuwait.

The cost of the tour will be £1,500 per participant, and we will share a detailed agenda once we have received your expressions of interest.

Please note that we do encourage you to indicate up to three areas of interest from the list above and we will accept one institution per area of interest. Additionally, institutions will be selected on a first-come-first-served basis and in line with the Ministry of Higher Education’s list of approved institutions/programmes.

Please forward your expression of interest to Imran Yousaf, Projects Manager, Kuwait, or call +965 22515512, ext 247 for more details.
