British Council Bangladesh has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2011 to transform English Language at Bangladesh's higher education institutions. Under the MoU British Council and the UGC commissioned a needs analysis of 13 of Bangladesh's Higher Education Institutions, as a result of which the British Council and UGC will commission four modules, English for Academic purposes for first year university students, English for Employment for final year students, a Lecture/Teacher module and a trainer training module.
These will be rolled out on a pilot basis with the aim of introducing them into all higher education institutions and English teaching centres in Bangladesh. British Council Bangladesh is planning a policy advocacy exercise to the inclusion of the modules as part of the wider higher education curriculum.
