The British Council in the UAE is planning to organise a visit by engineering academics from leading UK universities in September 2012. Since engineering continues to grow in popularity as a degree programme of choice for UAE-domiciled students, the ultimate goal of the study tour is to help UAE stakeholders develop a greater appreciation of the strengths of a UK engineering education so that they actively encourage more students to study engineering in the UK rather than another country.

In order to achieve this, we would meet with scholarship agencies, education agents and schools with the aim of helping them to understand the structure and content of UK engineering degrees, opportunities for post-graduate study, and career prospects.

We have already contacted schools and scholarship agencies to gauge their interest and the response has been extremely positive.

Universities will need to be able to release engineering academics to present on one of the following priority areas of the UAE market:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electronic & Electrical Engineering
  • Automotive Engineering
  • Aerospace Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Nuclear Engineering
  • Agricultural Engineering
  • Petroleum Engineering

We are suggesting a one-week visit to include:

  • Briefing meeting with British Council
  • One-day workshop with the main scholarship agencies in Abu Dhabi
  • Half-day workshop with education agents in Abu Dhabi
  • Half-day workshop with schools in Abu Dhabi
  • Half-day workshop with education agents in Dubai
  • Half-day workshop with schools in Dubai

We are aiming to share a detailed agenda and participation costs by the end of May once we have received your expressions of interest.

Please forward your expression of interest by 4pm on 14th May to Sara Himoudi, UAE Manager for SIEM, sara.himoudi@ae.britishcouncil.org or +971 (0)2 691 0609 (tel) or +971 (0)50 662 9583 (mobile).
