Opportunity

Eastern Liaoning University is looking for UK partners to jointly develop and provide dual-degree Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes, based in Dandong city of Liaoning province.

The proposed subjects include, but are not limited to: Electronic and Information Engineering; Computer Science and Digital Media; Tourism Management; Chemical and Material Engineering.

The joint programmes will recruit a total of approximately 100 students. The selected UK institutions will partner with Eastern Liaoning University to provide the joint HND programmes for the first three years in China. A certain number of students will have the option of completing the HNDs at the partner universities in the UK in their third year. In addition, students wishing to pursue further education after completing their HND programmes will have the option of completing top-up courses and possibly a master’s degree at the partner universities.

Areas of responsibilities for the collaborating parties

The selected UK partners will be expected to:

  • contribute to the curriculum design of the programme(s)
  • provide teachers to teach the programme(s) in China
  • provide teacher training to the Chinese teachers before the start of the programme(s)
  • provide quality assurance for the joint programme(s).

Eastern Liaoning University will:  

  • provide funding
  • provide the Chinese teaching staff
  • provide the teaching premises in China
  • recruit students.

Brief introduction of Eastern Liaoning University

Eastern Liaoning University is located in Dandong, China’s biggest border city. Approved by China’s Ministry of Education, it was established in 2003 by combing the former Liaoning Financial College and Dandong Professional Technological College. The University consists of 16 subsidiary schools.

Currently, the University has more than 17,000 full-time students, and more than 1,000 full-time teaching staff. The university offers 35 undergraduate courses and 34 higher vocational professional majors.

Eastern Liaoning University has established co-operative relationships and academic exchange programmes for both teachers and students with more than 20 universities and institutions, including in the US, UK, Canada, Russia, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Every year, the University accepts more than 150 overseas students, and around 100 of its own students study abroad on self-funded exchange programmes.

About Dandong

Dandong is a port city, situated on the banks of the Yalu River in southeastern Liaoning province, and a major trading hub for the neighboring Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The total population of Dandong is 2.4 million. It has a concentration of industrial, commercial, logistics and tourism businesses. It covers an area of 15,200 km2 and consists of three county-level cities, three districts, and one State-level border economic co-operation zone. The port of Dandong is being developed into the second major international logistics Centre of Liaoning and has become a notable alternative to the port of Dalian.
