Sichuan University of Science and Engineering (SUSE), based in Zigong City, Sichuan Province, Southwest China, is seeking to partner with a UK university to establish a joint research partnership in the area of material and chemical engineering.
Background
SUSE’s School of Material & Chemical Engineering wants to improve its research capacity by promoting staff exchanges and joint academic research with the UK. This could be pursued in a number of ways, including short-, medium- and long-term institutional visits, continuing professional development programmes, visiting scholarships, joint academic research, and other activities supporting knowledge transfer.
Furthermore, building upon the joint research partnership, the School is also interested in exploring opportunities to establish a joint master’s degree programme with a UK university. Details of this will be discussed with prospective partner institutes based on shared visions and goals.
About SUSE
SUSE was originally founded in 1965 and attached to East China University of Chemical Technology. It is now a key provincial comprehensive university approved by China’s Ministry of Education.
SUSE has a number of successful international student exchange programmes with foreign universities, such as Swansea University in the UK and Eastern New Mexico University in the US. It is now looking to expand its international scope through joint research partnerships.
Among SUSE’s 14 schools, the School of Material & Chemical Engineering has a long history in its research area and enjoys a good reputation nationally. It has developed new techniques and products, provides technical consultation for the design of auxiliary projects, and offers technical training for companies in these and related fields. Among its facilities are a Cathodic Protection Laboratory, a Corrosion Resistance Engineering Laboratory, a High-Temperature Corrosion Laboratory, and an Electrochemical Measurement System Laboratory.
About Zigong City
Zigong City is the third-largest city in Sichuan Province with a population of 2.7 million (2013). It is a historical and cultural city known as “Salt Capital”, “Lantern City” and “Town of Dinosaurs”, as it is rich in natural resources, such as coal, brine, rock salt, limestone, shale and natural gas. Machinery, salt production and new materials are the city’s main industries.
Requirements for UK Partner
SUSE’s School of Material & Chemical Engineering is looking to partner with a UK university that has a strong track record in material and chemical engineering, particularly in metal or polymer protection materials.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please send an introduction of your organisation and highlights of your research activity in material and chemical engineering to siem.china@britishcouncil.org.cn by 19 February 2016.
