Central China Normal University (CCNU, Huazhong Normal University) is looking for a UK university partner to design, deliver and manage a three-week EMI (English as a medium of instruction) teacher training programme in the UK for 16 academic lecturers from CCNU, preferably from end of June to end of July 2018.
Opportunity
Central China Normal University (CCNU) is looking for a UK university partner to design and deliver a three-week teacher training programme to a group of 16 academic lecturers to further promote the professional development of the teachers of CCNU. The lecturers will be mostly under 50 years old and undertaking teaching and research majors focused on education pedagogy and practices. The programme would be expected to strengthen their teaching pedagogy and research capabilities, especially focusing on their English language competency and teaching methodologies of EMI.
Objectives:
- To develop a good understanding of the principles that underlie academic teaching with EMI skills
- To develop pedagogical skills for planning, teaching and lecturing in EMI
- To improve the quality of communication with students in the classroom, to support more confident and effective delivery in English
- To develop participants’ overall capacity in educational research and continuing professional development in EMI relevant to their own specialist subject areas.

Requirements
The UK partner should be experienced in delivering training courses on EMI training and will be expected to design and deliver a suitable three week (15 days) training programme including the below sessions:
- Introduction of innovative English teaching methodologies and pedagogies in the UK
- English communication skills and approaches to develop effective learning environments and teacher-student relationships
- bilingual curriculum design and teaching activities management
- conducting educational research and publishing papers in English and continuing professional development in teaching.
The UK partner will also be expected to provide:
- accommodation (preferably university student accommodation with en-suite single rooms)
- three meals a day (including arrangements for weekend meals)
- extra-curricular activities and cultural visits
- opportunities to practice teaching with UK students or other international students
- airport pick up/drop off and local daily travel/commuting arrangements
- a letter of invitation to support the visa application process
- a certificate of completion for each participant at the end of the training.
Central China Normal University (CCNU) will provide the following services:
- selection of teachers in China with certain language proficiency – pre-sessional questionnaire with the selected partner
- nomination of one leading teacher to coordinate the training process in the UK
- arrangements for participant teachers’ UK visa applications, international air-tickets and insurance
- pre-departure briefing and guidance for teachers before the delegation travels to the UK
