Tianjin Municipality, a metropolis in Northern China, and 4th largest city in China in terms of urban population, is seeking a prestigious British University to partner with one of its top universities to establish a joint university with legal identity. In total there are 55 Universities and Colleges in Tianjin including Nankai University and Tianjin University, ranked 328 and 501 in the QS world university rankings respectively and both of which are Project 985 and 211 universities.

Support

The Tianjin Municipal Government will provide the following support to the proposed joint university:

1) Tianjin Haihe Education Park, which is home to 7 vocational institutions and the location for Nankai and Tianjin University’s new campuses, has allocated 160,000 m2 of land with established new school buildings for use by the joint university campus.

2) Tianjin municipal government will provide financial support including a lump sum (amount to be determined) for running the university, regular financial support after enrolment begins, as well as refunding personal income tax to teachers recruited from the UK.

3) The universities will have autonomy to discuss and decide the detailed nature of the partnership, including the partnership model and curriculum mapping and design.

4) The same policy support as provided to local universities in Tianjin will be provided to the joint university.

Timeline

Tianjin municipality would like to schedule reciprocal visits in Summer 2015, with a view to confirming the British and Tianjin partner universities in Autumn 2015.
