UK universities are invited to tender to host approximately 32 high school students and group leaders from Osaka Japan for a s academic programmes during the period between late July and early August 2017.
Background:
In 2012, Osaka Prefectural Government launched the Osaka Global School (OGS) programme, under which they have sent groups of high school students to the US and UK for two weeks to visit and get a taste of academic studies and student life at universities in each country. The aim of the programme is to nurture young people who can realise their potential in global society through providing them with study opportunities in overseas universities. The British Council Japan has been running the UK-bound programme since 2012 and we have sent students to several UK universities selected through tender.
The British Council Japan has been selected to run the OGS programme in 2017 and we are now calling for applications from UK universities interested in hosting the group. The student group will arrive in London and depart from Manchester. Three host universities located between London and Manchester will be selected.
The students (aged 16-18) will be selected from approximately 100 applicants. Applicants will be required to have an interest in studying abroad and a certain level of English (IELTS 4.5 to 6). The selected students will participate in a series of English preparatory classes before going to the UK. The 2016 visit received very positive feedback from all involved. The UK host universities were impressed with the enthusiasm and motivation of the students, as well as with their English level.
