The Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional and Continuing Education (LiPACE) is one of the five academic units of the Open University of Hong Kong specialising in professional and continuing education. Since its establishment in June 1992, LiPACE has been committed to providing a variety of flexible and high-quality life-long educational opportunities in various disciplines, at different levels, to the public. Its role and services are well reflected by its slogan "Your lifelong learning partner".

LiPACE is an existing provider of UK TNE programmes, and has existing partnerships with three UK universities for provision of part time and full time undergraduate degree programmes.

LiPACE would like to expand its provision in the areas of Business, Built Environment and Early Childhood Education, as follows:

  1. BBA and MBA (ideally to be delivered in Chinese in addition to English, please see notes below)
  2. PG programmes in Civil Engineering, Surveying, Architecture and Project Management (must lead to UK professional qualifications and registration)
  3. PG programmes in Music/Play Therapy (must lead to professional qualifications and registration)

Students for these programmes would be studying part time while working, therefore flexible course delivery will be key criteria in selecting partners.

Please note that the QAA raises questions regarding the delivery of courses in other languages, which institutions interested in this opportunity should be aware of, as stated in the UK Quality code for Higher Education:

  • Capacity of the degree awarding body to satisfy itself about the quality of the provision that leads to its awards
  • ŸAssessment of students' work in a foreign language poses serious challenges to the ability of a degree-awarding body to be in proper control of the academic standards of awards made in its name
  • Take steps to ensure that they have a continuing availability of internal and external examiners who are able to work easily in all the languages concerned and are fully trained to perform their role effectively
  • Any intervention between the examiner(s) and the work produced by the student, such as language translation, introduces another level of risk in making reliable and valid judgments about student achievement.
