The Kyoto College of Graduate Studies for Informatics (KCGI), a private institution offering a 2-year master’s degree programme in information technologies, was established in 2004 by the KCG Group (founded in 1963), which also runs vocational schools and a Japanese language training centre.

KCGI's degree programme was developed based on the curriculum from the US-based Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and Association for Information System (AIS), and has been modified to meet the needs of the contemporary IT and business sectors in Japan.

KCGI is looking for a higher education institution in the UK to have a pathway agreement with, for their graduates to pursue a second master’s degree in the UK.

• Interested KCGI students can, during their second year in Japan, apply for a master’s degree programme at the partner institution in the UK; if accepted, they will enroll in the UK programme after gaining a master’s degree from KCGI.

• A UK institution offering master’s degree programmes in the following fields may be ideal:

Business Management or related fields (with IT focus) / Art and Design / Communication and Marketing / Additional IT Areas (e.g. Computer Science and Engineering, Networking, Cybersecurity, Data Science, UX Design, etc)

• Among the 700-800 KCGI students (= the total of 1st year and 2nd year students), currently about 5% are estimated to have English proficiency level of IELTS 6.5 or above. The partner UK institution may consider offering summer programmes for KCGI students to improve their English and/or pre-sessional courses for conditional offer holders.

• At this stage it is difficult for KCGI to estimate how many of their students will be interested in earning a second master's degree in the UK. KCGI is developing similar pathway agreements with partner institutions in other countries, but is open to an idea of having one exclusive partner in the UK.

• KCGI does not expect the partner institution to send their students to KCGI in reciprocation; however, if there is a demand, is willing to consider partial curriculum articulation so that the partner UK institution’s students, after earning a master’s degree at their home institution, can attend KCGI and earn a second master’s degree in less than the originally required 2 years. (Modules are available in English.)

• KCGI representatives will be London on 11- 14 July and may be available for face-to-face meetings.
