The British Council in India invites UK HEIs to participate in the GREAT Scholarships 2019 India programme. 

British Council in India has administered the GREAT Scholarships since 2014. In 2018, the GREAT Scholarship was redesigned to offer full tuition based on consultation with BUILA and feedback from sector experts.

The GREAT scholarship 2019 -20 will be jointly funded by the GREAT Campaign and the UK HEIs. The scholarships funded under this initiative will be named “GREAT–Name of the University Scholarship 2019 – India” and will offer full tuition scholarships for a period of one year of study.

MANAGEMENT OF SCHOLARSHIPS

Total number of full tuition GREAT scholarship 2019: 35

GREAT scholarship 2019 will be offered for only September 2019 intake to a UK HEI.

  1. For an undergraduate degree, the tuition scholarship is for the first year of study only
  2. For a post graduate study, the tuition scholarship is for one year of study at the Master’s level (Scholarships can be offered for the first year of study of a two-year master’s programme)

Funding model

  1. GREAT will contribute to a maximum of 50 percent of the published tuition for each selected scholar
  2. Each UK HEI will discount 50 percent of the published tuition for each selected GREAT scholar

Eligibility and selection of scholars

  • All GREAT scholars should have studied in India at the school /college level and not have studied abroad before
  • Scholarships will be open only to Indian passport holders’ resident in India at the time of application
  • UK institutions will nominate candidates in a prescribed format before 31 May 2019. The nominated students will submit an application for consideration for the scholarship
  • The British Council selection panel will select the scholarship awardees on set parameters

OTHER TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • The British Council will collect scholar profiles for GREAT scholarship 2019 to survey the impact of the programme
  • The participating UKHEI will need to provide full contact details of the person who will coordinate the scholarship programme and handle student enquiries. This information will be published on the British Council website for prospective students who will apply to your institution and to the scholarship
  • The GREAT funding will be released to the respective UK institution on the receipt of an invoice and upon fulfilling all required documentation

BENEFITS FOR UK INSTITUTIONS

The GREAT scholarship 2019 will be an opportunity for UK higher education institutions to increase their brand visibility in India.

The scholarships will be promoted through an integrated marketing campaign funded by GREAT and managed by the British Council. The campaign will run nationwide from 1 April and 31 May 2019 and cover key online and offline marketing channels, activities and events to the target audiences across India.

All participating institutions are encouraged to further promote the scholarships through their own channels

  • 31 March 2019:  Deadline for submitting Expressions of Interest
  • 31 May 2019: Last date for scholar nomination
  • 30 June 2019: Scholar selection by the British Council panel
  • 1 July 2019: Agreement review, contracts

The GREAT Britain Campaign is the UK government’s initiative to promote the UK internationally as a GREAT place to visit, study and do business. The British Council in India is a partner in the campaign to raise awareness and promote the UK’s strengths in education, English language and the arts.
