On behalf of the Government of Kerala, the British Council in India invite proposals from Higher Education Institutions in the UK to provide a one-week leadership training in October or November 2019 to three groups of students (20-25 each group), total of 65 Student Union leaders from colleges and universities of the state of Kerala. Each group of students will be accompanied by a faculty member.

Student Union leaders are elected by their peers and represent the student voice in their colleges. They often have political affiliations or are supported by political parties and go on to become either political leaders or leaders in their field of study.

The short leadership programme is aimed to equip student leaders with the necessary training to represent student interests and drive change in the college and to provide exposure to the functioning of the National Union of Students UK

At the end of the week, the student leaders would have developed some understanding about:

•           Leadership ideas and skills

•           Teambuilding

•           Negotiation skills

•           Decision-making skills

•           Communication skills

In addition to classroom sessions, it would be appreciated if interactions with National Union of Students to understand their operation and some cultural visits could be planned.

This is an exciting opportunity for UK HEIs to engage with Student Union Leaders from India, thereby also having access to the Government of Kerala, Indian colleges and universities for student recruitment and partnership development.

Terms

The British Council request UK HEIs to provide a turnkey solution which will include training fees (if any), accommodation arrangements of the visitors, local transportation for the programme including airport transfers and meet and greet; meetings with other stakeholders including the student union and relevant arrangements including cultural or social activities with learning outcomes.

International flights and visa facilitation for the UK will be arranged by the Indian state government.

Interested HEIs are requested to apply and should contact: Sonu Hemanii, Head Higher Education, British Council, India sonu.hemanii@britishcouncil.org Deadline for expression of interest is 9 July 2019. Please share expression of interest along with an up-to-date profile of the organisation, technical and financial proposal and covering letter. Proposals received will be shared with the Government of Kerala who will then determine which UK HEIs they will be working with for this trip.
