SIEM, India is offering a Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical mission targeting higher education institutions in these subject areas in the cities of Bangalore and Ahmedabad.

The objective of the mission is to provide a platform to UK Institutions to establish stronger links via faculty discussion, collaborations on topics of mutual interest and recruitment.

The participating UK institutions will meet with specialist faculty at the Indian institution, take part in round table discussions, and deliver presentations on specific topics to prospective students. The mission will also involve industry participation.

Why Biotechnology in Bangalore and Pharmaceutical in Ahmedabad?

Bangalore is a hub for Biotechnology in India; having more than 30 Indian institutions offering courses on Biotechnology and more than 27 companies having various collaborations and research activities in the field of Biotechnology. Bangalore is primarily a post graduate market and Biotechnology is one of the key subjects sought by the student population.
Gujarat is the lead state in India for pharmaceutical production and over the last two decades has contributed between 35 per cent and 46 per cent of the national share in pharmaceutical production. Ahmedabad and Vadodara are leaders in the production of generics. Gujarat's pharmaceutical industry has now achieved sustainable growth, is undergoing major capacity expansion and is playing an increasingly important role in global consolidation process. In India, there is an increasing spend on healthcare as the emerging economy creates higher incomes, improved health insurance penetration, and lifestyle-related diseases. Gujarat's pharma majors have also started up scaling their R & D operations to tap the huge potential of therapeutic categories that offer opportunities for those who take the lead in becoming global, innovative research-based pharmaceutical companies. Gujarat accounts for about 40 per cent of India’s pharmaceutical production. A total of 3507 manufacturing units are engaged in manufacturing of Allopathic, Ayurvedic, Homeopathic Drugs and Cosmetics.
