About the event

Twenty-five years into the 21st century, we have already witnessed profound changes in the international education landscape. Since 2000, the number of higher education students studying overseas has more than tripled (surpassing six million students), while the rise of the internet and smartphones revolutionized communications and had a profound impact on the way we learn. Looking back on the last 25 years, the changes that we have experienced might seem preordained. Or even mundane. But today’s reality would have been difficult to fathom only 25 years ago.

Looking at the period from 2025 to 2050, what will stand out as the biggest changes to international education? How will student mobility look different in 2050 than it does today? What are the most significant challenges that higher education institutions will face over the next 25 years?

This event is the second of the British Council’s International Higher Education series focusing on the Indo-Pacific region. It aims to look ahead and identify the trends that will most profoundly impact international education over the next 25 years and the opportunities as well as risks we face in this region, and how might they evolve over the coming years.

Our panel of high-profile experts for this event includes:

  • Amitabh Jhingan, Partner EY Parthenon Education Strategy Practice
  • Hanna Celina, Co-Founder Kinnu
  • Jamie Arrowsmith, Director Universities UK International
  • Loren Griffiths, Head of Solutions for HolonIQ
  • Maddalaine Ansell Director Education British Council
  • Matt Durnin, Principal, NOUS Consulting Group
  • Professor Mushtak Al-Atabi, Provost of Herriot Watt University Malaysia
  • William Higham, Founder, The Next Big Thing

The panel discussion will be moderated by Jazreel Goh, Country Director British Council Malaysia and East Asia Education Insights Hub Director.

Please join our diverse panel of high-profile experts to expand the bounds of our thinking; to imagine what might be possible and to better prepare ourselves for the next quarter century.

Together we will examine the collaborative landscape and barriers that universities will encounter and look to find solutions that will secure a successful future for UK international higher education.
