The British Council in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Department of Biotechnology (DBT) invites applications for funding of short term placements for PhD scholars in United Kingdom (UK) and Indian institutions.

Please inform your students about this programme and encourage them to apply for funding by 4 August, 4.00 pm UKT.

About the programme:

The PhD placement offers  funding to Indian and UK PhD scholars for a period of 2-4 months of their research at any UK or Indian higher education institution. Participating in the programme promotes international intellectual networks, builds the capacity of individuals, increases cultural understanding and fosters sustainable research collaborations.

Who can apply for funding?

In the UK, the scheme is open for UK scholars pursuing their PhDs at a higher education institution.

In India, the scheme is open for Indian scholars enrolled at higher education institution with following criteria:

  • INSPIRE PhD Senior Research Fellows (SRFs) batch of 2015 are eligible to apply for a STEM.​​​
  • PhD Scholar who have qualified through a national level test and are pursuing PhD in second or third year of Life Sciences are eligible to apply. The following national level tests are considered: CSIR/UGC-NET, GATE, BET, ICMR-NET, ICAR-NET
