The Hong Kong government has gifted three floors of prime office space to Community College of City University, which is managed by the University of Wollongong, for a new campus designed to house 6,000 students.
The college is scheduled to become independent in 2020 after a five-year transition, and hopes to gain degree awarding powers. Currently top-up degrees are awarded by Wollongong, who also have a branch campus in Dubai.

Comments by Steve Corry, Head of Education Marketing Services, British Council Hong Kong:
This development comes at an interesting time, with a shrinking student population in Hong Kong making student recruitment more challenging for the local self-funded tertiary education sector, and many private sector colleges significantly under-recruiting.
This development, once finished in 2020, may provide strong competition to TNE providers in Hong Kong. Currently offering top-up degrees in business, computer science and communications & media studies, it will be interesting to see what degrees Wollongong offer as the new campus takes shape.
