The United Kingdom's latest move to stop accepting Test of English as a Foreign Language and Test of English for International Communication results in visa applications may not have a significant impact on Chinese students who plan to study there, an overseas study consultants said.

The students applying for UK universities with TOEFL results are not the mainstream. In fact, for students who see UK universities as their first or only choice, the fact TOEFL can no longer be used in UK visa applications will not make a difference. It is said the possible reasons for students using TOEFL scores are: applying for universities both in the UK and the US, and being better at TOEFL than the IELTS.

However, whether the latest move to stop accepting ETS results will influence Chinese students' willingness to study in the UK remains unknown. For students who take the US universities as the first choice while the UK universities as an option, as universities in the US offer more scholarships than those in the UK, it is believed they will give up UK universities and shall focus on US universities applications.
