Britain is still a preferred destination for higher studies, going by the 7,000 students and parents who turned out for the British Council's UK Education expo, which ended yesterday.
Last year's expo, also a two-day affair in August, drew 6,000 visitors.

The council said 6,256 students applied by the end of June to study in Britain, up 3.6 percent over last year.

But it is still far below the 37percent jump seen last year over 2011.

The first Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education examination was rolled out last year and students were apprehensive about the outcome.

The council's education and society head, Sophia Chan-Combrink, attributed the slim rise this year to growing confidence in the HKDSE, while adding that some universities have adjusted admission requirements.
