The UK government’s Science and Innovation team in Japan have published the 4th edition of UK-Japan Science & Innovation Collaboration: Sources of Funding.

The booklet is downloadable from the UK GOV website and is intended as a quick overview of the key sources of funding available to researchers interested in collaboration on science or innovation between the UK and Japan. We would welcome your help to highlight this support to researchers in your institutions.

The UK and Japan are strong partners in Science and Technology. The UK ranks 4th among Japan’s international partners for research collaboration and co-authored research is high quality, being cited 2.5 times more than the world average. Administered by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), Kakenhi is the largest competitive research funding programme in Japan with a budget of approximately 230 billion yen per year. Recent reform lead to the establishment of a new 6.4 billion yen grant programme to help KAKENHI awardees establish international research collaborations. It is anticipated that the initiative will support around 400 KAKENHI awardees to apply for add-on funding for international projects.
