As a part of Rashtriya Uchchattar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA, National Higher Education Mission) scheme undertaken by Government of India in 2013, now three colleges in Mumbai will be part of HSNC university. The colleges are H.R. College of Commerce & Economics, Kishinchand Chellaram College and Bombay Teachers Training College. This will not only benefit the students by exposing them to a range of courses, change in teaching- learning pedagogy but also for international HEIs looking to expand their partnerships and collaborations in India.
A few of the key features of the new board are an upgraded and contemporary curriculum, better employment opportunities, internships, soft skills and hands- on training. The new board is also looking to establish exchange programmes with international universities and this will be a potential point of collaboration for UK HEIs. The board is also planning to introduce interdisciplinary research at PhD level.
HSNC is the second cluster university in the city preceded by Dr. Homi Bhabha State University (DHBSU) which brought Sydenham, Elphistone, Secondary Training Colleges and Institution of Science under one roof. We foresee more cluster universities in future under RUSA scheme in the country, which will upgrade Indian institutions creating opportunities for international engagement and partnerships.
