Today sees the release of the first examination results of the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education. Results show that over one third (26,341) of the 70,000 students who sat the exams have passed minimum entry requirements for local universities. More than 10,000 of those students will need to pay more money for university places or look elsewhere to continue their education, as there are only 15,100 government subsidised places available in Hong Kong, as well as a few thousand full-tuition-fee private courses.
