Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that a new Education Standard Act comprising of all the changes that should be made to enhance the quality of the country’s education will be introduced in the near future. This will in turn improve the learning process.

The contribution of teachers is significant in ensuring the quality of the country’s education system. Therefore it is essential to engage trained teachers in all schools to strengthen the teaching and learning process specially mentioning the importance of giving legal power to education inspectors.

The current Sri Lankan government hope to ensure a better education system by 2024- 25. Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam stated that developing human resources is the best way to develop the country.

British Council Sri Lanka, through an MoU with the Ministry of Education and discussions with the Ministry of Higher Education and the University Grants Commission is currently working on a large scale education sector reform project titled, TRANSFORM. The main focus of this project is to create ‘access to learning opportunities provided by a fit for purpose and relevant education system, allowing young people to contribute to the economic and social development of Sri Lanka while achieving their potential and meeting their personal aspirations.’
