On 7th April 2020, with the approval from the cabinet, Ministry of Education announced schools in Thailand to defer the start of the first semester of academic year 2020 from 16th May to 1st July 2020. This is to prevent students and teachers from the Covid-19 outbreak and to give more time for them to be prepared for the on-line teaching and learning if this method is to be used for the new academic year.

However, the Ministry will offer some lessons as a pilot one on a digital TV channel to give students opportunities to learn and getting used to this teaching and learning method during this three-month school holiday.

To avoid the disruption in the next academic year, the Ministry plans for the second semester to start on 1st December 2020 to 30 April 2021. Therefore, students will be able to start the 2021 academic year again as usual in mid of May 2021.  However, students will not have school holiday on October and April.
