Qatar' s Minister for Higher Education has indicated that the country may review its policies on private higher education provision in the country, and recognition of distance learning and scholarships. At a press conference held on Saturday marking the start of the new academic year, Minister al-Hammadi said that two feasibility studies are currently being undertaken, one looking at the possibilities of private higher education institutions being allowed to set up in Qatar, and second at the recogition of distance and e-learning programmes. He also said current overseas scholarships policy was being reviewed to ensure it aligns with the country's employment needs. No time-frames were given for publishing of the findings of the reviews.
