The vice chancellor of the newly established University of Turbat, Dr Abdul Razzaq Sabir, speaking at a two day research workshop, emphasised the need for promoting a research culture in the country’s universities, saying it’s an important responsibility of any university to make it imperative for both teachers and students to use modern research methodologies and techniques for data analysis.

The workshop, organised by the varsity’s Office of Research Innovation and Commercialisation (Oric), was attended by faculty members and students.

University of Turbat (UOT) is the second General University in public sector situated in Turbat, Balochistan, chartered by the Government of Balochistan.

The university was established with an aim to provide higher education to the people of Mekran Division which is 1/8th of the entire area of the province.

Dr Sabir mentioned the University of Turbat had signed a number of MoUs with national and international educational institutions for promotion of research activities and sharing knowledge and experiences.

The Vice Chancellor said the university had provided opportunities to several faculty members to pursue their M.Phil and PhD at both domestic and foreign universities and launched several projects to promote research culture and impart quality education to students.

British Council Pakistan strives to support universities, institutions and other education decision makers in their advancement and partnership development strategies to consequently strengthen collaboration within local universities and UK institutions.

Trans-national education (TNE) is a growing market in Pakistan and recent data shows evidence of over 40 such programs running successfully in affiliation with UK universities at undergraduate and graduate level, according to the  British Council. Overall, the UK takes about 65 per cent of the TNE market in Pakistan, at a clear majority.
