A new report, Mapping Internationalization on U.S. Campuses: 2012 edition, assesses the current internationalization efforts in the U.S. higher education system by examining how these levels of internationalization have changed over the past decade. The American Council on Education's Center for Internationalization and Global Engagement in cooperation with their Center for Policy Analysis released the report based on surveys conducted of US colleges and universities. The report highlights institutional efforts in many keys areas of internationalization, including:
- Institutional Commitment
- Administrative Structure and Staffing
- Curriculum, Co-Curriculum, and Learning Outcomes
- Faculty Policies and Practices
- Student Mobility
- Collaboration and Partnerships
The report broadly concludes that, while the majority of institutions perceive that internationalization has accelerated on campus in recent years (93 per cent of doctoral institutions, 84 per cent of masters institutions, 78 per cent of baccalaureate institutions and 50 per cent of associate institutions and special focus institutions), the reality is that some areas of internationalization on US campuses have increased while a notable lack of progress remains in other areas.
