The Government of India has released new guidelines for incoming international passengers on 14 February 2022.  From the date of this announcement, any international travellers arriving in India do not need to take a RT-PCR test or a weeklong quarantine which was a mandate earlier.

The passengers will have to submit a self-declaration form along with details of their last 14 days travel. They will need to upload their negative Covid -19 RT-PCR report prior to the travel (should be conducted within 72 hrs prior to undertaking the journey) or certificate of completing full primary vaccination schedule of COVID-19 vaccination (with whom India has agreement on mutual recognition of certification). For additional details, see here.

Passengers are requested to self-monitor for 14 days, and in case of any suspected Covid-19 like symptoms, they must either report to the nearest health facility or call the government helpline number 1075.

Thermal screening will be continued for all international passengers on arrival.  Any passenger found to be symptomatic while screening will be immediately isolated and taken to a medical facility. A two per cent random testing of all incoming passengers from other countries will be carried out, but they will be allowed to leave airport without having to wait for the reports.

The demarcation of countries at-risk & other countries has been removed.  The new guidelines also allow quarantine-free travel to those who are fully vaccinated with certificates from other countries. At present, this list includes 80+ countries such as Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, UK that have an agreement with India on mutual recognition of certificates for vaccination using nationally recognised or WHO recognised vaccines.
