In effect on 1 August 2013, two Taiwanese higher education institutions will operate under new names. The two institutions are Nan Jeon Institute of Technology (to become Nan Jeon University of Science and Technology) and Wenzao Ursuline College of Languages (to become Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages).

Department of Vocational and Technological Education at the Ministry of Education commented that the two name change cases were merely to reflect the scale of the institutions. Their status of being tertiary education institutions remained unaffected, and the existing junior college operations will carry on within the institutions.

Following the name change, the two institutions are put through a specific inspection programme by the Ministry to ensure that the quality education is continued. Failing so will bring the institutions a number of penalty including reduction of government grant, decrease in cap for student recruitment, and frozen tuition fee level, reported United Daily.
