The Consular Services team provides assistance to distressed British nationals overseas. There has been an increase in the number of consular cases involving British students studying in the USA. In an effort to address these cases, the consular team has initiated a campaign highlighting the best way for students to have a successful and trouble free experience while studying in the USA.

The top messages are:
1. Make sure you know about potential restrictions on your visa. Is work permitted on your visa?
2. Medical care is expensive in the US! Understand your medical coverage.
3. The drinking age in the US is 21, and it is taken very seriously.

The campaign has an accompanying guide with useful information on how students can avoid trouble, the consular services that can and cannot be provided, and useful contact information:

Please help consular service ensure this information reaches your students by including it in your pre-departure and pre-arrival information packets.
