Taking extra classes after school and at weekends has become a popular trend among many primary school students and their parents.  It has proved a very lucrative business for the companies involved as students enrol in courses in order to stay ahead in China’s competitive educational system.  China’s listed companies from the education and training industry witnessed a high profit increase in 2011 despite the overall economic slump.  Many companies are tapping into this education culture, New Oriental Education and Technology Group Inc is an example, recording a net profit in 2011 of $102 million.  The expansion of the internet has opened new opportunities for online teaching, however it is still in its early stages as face-to-face teaching remains the preferred format.
