With a SAT-like test to attract foreign students, the AICTE hopes to revive India’s flailing technical education sector while pitching India as a global education destination
The AICTE will be introducing this test before the next academic session begins. This initiative is expected to generate more revenue as well as address the problems of almost 19 % seats across technical courses going vacant. Reducing the fees for foreign students is expected to act as an incentive to encourage enrolment.

Indian students prefer international work experience, but home is not far away
Indicatively, survey findings show an overwhelming number of students prefer international work experience after completing their course, though experts feel the reality of reverse-brain-drain is fast gaining ground due to increased opportunities and global organisations setting up base in India.
Also indicated was employers’ preference to hire foreign educated candidates due to their international exposure and application-based knowledge.

Higher education centres in India to help with regional issues
MHRD minister Pallam Raju spoke for the need for Higher Educational institutes to solve regional problems, while laying the foundation stone at the new IIM Raipur. The Chief Minister urged the students to conduct research on management and schemes of state government and brainstorm solutions for the states problems.
He stressed on the need to develop human resources at a faster pace through joint collaboration of state government and the institute, adding that efforts were being made to overcome problem of dearth of good teachers.

HRD Minister MM Pallam Raju Visit USA for Discussion on Higher Education

The number of foreign students is close to its lowest point in a decade in New Zealand
Language schools and universities throughout New Zealand are reporting static or falling enrolments, blaming the high dollar and global recession . International student numbers had been recovering after dropping to barely 90,000 five years ago, but in 2012 fell 6% to below 92,000 and another drop is possible this year. English language schools suffered most of last year's decline. English New Zealand, which represents 25 of the schools, says enrolments at its members are down a further 10% this year.

Foreign students happy to be in Australia, but it costs
The high cost of living is an increasing cause for complaint among international students, who are otherwise pretty happy with their decision to study here.
Only 51 per cent of overseas students in Australia for higher education were satisfied with living costs, according to just-released results from the 2012 International Student Survey.

Rise in number of Indian students going to Russia
There has been a steady rise in the number of Indian students pursuing higher education in Russian universities. The number of students enrolling in Russian universities increased by almost 60 per cent to 450 in 2012 as compared to 280 in 2011. A majority of these students enrol for medical or paramedical courses in Russia, said Timur Akhmetov of Kazan State Medical University.

Indo-US education collaboration gaining ground
Indo-US collaboration in the education sector is gradually gaining ground with the two countries identifying eight joint projects worth about USD 250,000 each and implementation of a series of measures aimed at helping India address its major challenges. On his maiden trip to the US after becoming Union Minister for Human Resources and Development last October, M M Pallam Raju said 125 faculties and another 100 teachers in India have been identified who would be coming to the US for training.
