There have been an increasing number of graduates from elite senior high schools in Taiwan going overseas for undergraduate studies.  Despite being accepted by prestigious local universities, more and more high school leavers decided to move their planned overseas study forward and depart for China, Hong Kong or the USA so as to benefit from the international environment at an earlier stage.

According to an unofficial survey, over 100 high school leavers chose to attend universities in Hong Kong, which drew concerns over brain drain from the Taiwanese society. Many of the students were attracted overseas by the generous scholarships and international learning environment offered by the foreign universities, reported United Daily News.
