British Council is delighted to announce that Helen Clews, Senior Consultant (Visas & Immigration) Cultural Engagement, British Council, will feature as a key speaker at the House of Lords, Palace of Westminster.

On Wednesday 3 November, ProtectED, a not-for-profit membership organisation which supports student safety, security and wellbeing will host a special event in the House of Lords hosted by ProtectED patron Baroness Ruth Henig.  The event will celebrate the success of the work being achieved by universities and present award certificates to founder members.

British Council‘s Helen Clews has been involved with ProtectED since its inception informing the development of important measures in safety, security and wellbeing to help international students prepare for their studies and life in the UK.

The British Council and ProtectED recognises that there is an expectation that universities have a wider role to play in supporting the safety and wellbeing of their students — not only while they are on campus, but throughout their whole student experience.

Helen recently commented, “ProtectED is the 'gold standard' for assessing the work done by universities to ensure their students' safety, security and wellbeing. As a member of the ProtectED Advisory Board and British Council Senior Consultant on Visas & Immigration in Cultural Engagement, I have informed the development of important measures to help international students prepare for their studies and to live safely in the UK. Working alongside ‘Study UK’, this gives students guidance on preparing for a visa, preparing for coming to the UK and very importantly, settling in safely once they arrive.  ProtectED helps raise quality performance standards of UK universities for the benefit of all including staff, stakeholders, students and their families.”
