Plans for the creation of a HE institute to promote Sino-Moroccan academic cooperation were approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education in January.
The two partners in the project are Ningxia University in the homonymous region of China, and Université Hassan Premier in Settat, Morocco. The new institute will provide opportunities for joint research, conferencing and staff and student exchanges.
This latest agreement comes at a time of growing bilateral ties between China and Morocco.
Four Confucius Institute centres have been opened in Morocco since 2009, partnering with:
• Université Mohammed V (Rabat)
• Université Ibn Zohr (Agadir)
• Université Hassan II (Casablanca)
• Université Abdelmalik Essadi (Tetouan)
The Confucius Institute centres organise Chinese language courses and cultural activities and facilite study trips to China for Moroccan undergraduate students.
