In 2013, the Korean government announced a plan to establish a wide-ranging set of standards to measure workers’ competence in more than 800 occupations by 2014. The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Employment and Labor have been developing the National Competency Standards (NCS) system, in which a person will be able to receive accreditation or certification for demonstrating a certain level of performance in a particular job.
These days, Colleges have been adopting NCS, which is very similar with NOS (National Occupational Standards) in UK, in their curriculum as part of the government policy. Colleges also have launched customised departments to nurture highly skilled manpower to meet diversified industrial demand.
