The Assessment Centre of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education, Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics, and Tsinghua University have jointly published the first Quality Report on Engineering Education in China. The report is based on an investigation of over 100 colleges, universities and industrial associations in China.

By 2013, a total of 2.88 million students had graduated from China’s engineering colleges and universities, which offer a total of 15,733 engineering majors at bachelor's level, the most in the world. However, according to Wu Yan, Director of the Assessment Centre of Higher Education, engineering education in China is not on par with international engineering education. Industrial associations and enterprises should be more involved in the education programmes, Wu Yan said in an interview.
