PAK UK Education Gateway is a partnership between the British Council and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan. The project was conceived based on shared interest and mutual benefit for both the UK and Pakistan. Under the Higher Education Leadership strand of the Gateway, it was agreed that both parties will develop Customized Fellowships under National Academy for Higher Education (NAHE) Pakistan on the model of Advance HE UK Fellowship to enhance commitment to professionalism in learning and teaching in higher education. [1]

In the pilot phase in summer/autumn of 2021, trainees will be getting the recognition of teaching excellence in HE across Pakistan using the UK Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (UKPSF). Fellowship provided by Advance HE utilise a mechanism with adaptation for the context of Pakistan’s HE teaching environment.

500+ graduates of the initial cohort of Interim Placement of Fresh PhDs (IPFP) Program national faculty development programme from Pakistan to obtain Associate Fellow (AFHEA) status.

HEA Fellowship (part of the Advance HE provisions) demonstrates a personal and institutional commitment to professionalism in learning and teaching in higher education. Across four categories - Associate Fellow, Fellow, Senior Fellow and Principal Fellow - HEA Fellowship provides individuals with recognition of their practice, impact and leadership of teaching and learning. HEA Fellowships have been awarded to staff in 100 countries worldwide. There are currently over 143,000 recognised Fellows in HE across the globe.

Advance HE is the custodian of the Professional Standards Framework for Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (UKPSF) and the sole body responsible for certifying HEA Fellowship based upon it.
