The Education Minister, Chiang, Wei-Ling, expressed his concerns with the declined number of Taiwanese academics and young professionals that are currently working overseas.
It was pointed out that the strong overseas based talent that Taiwan had in the past was key to the success of Taiwan’s development of its outstanding science parks and high-tech industry. In order to retain sufficient base of overseas talent that bring international experience to Taiwan’s future industrial development, the Ministry of Education will look at setting up more scholarships and increasing government funding to encourage Taiwanese youngsters to study overseas, reports the China Times.
