The Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) is a comprehensive blueprint which was developed by industry leaders from the private sector after a series of intensive brainstorming sessions in 2009.

The main objective of this blueprint is to identify sectors which have the most potential to springboard Malaysia to becoming a high income nation by 2020. These selected sectors would be known as National Key Economic Areas (NKEAs). At present, there are 12 NKEAs, namely:

• Oil, Gas and Energy
• Palm Oil and Rubber
• Financial Services
• Tourism
• Business Services
• Electronics and Electrical
• Wholesale and Retail
• Education
• Healthcare
• Communication Content and Infrastructure
• Agriculture
• Greater KL / Klang Valley

With ETP, 92 per cent of the funding would come from the private sector. The detailed blueprint could be found on ETP’s official website
