France is expecting more Chinese students to study in universities in France. The number of Chinese students was 15,000 in 2005, but now that number has increased to over 31,000. About 60 percent choose to study at public universities in France. Approximately 20 percent study in engineering schools and around 15 percent of them study in business schools or management schools. Mrs. Geneviève Fioraso, the French Minister of Higher Education and Research, said the number of Chinese students in France is expected to reach 80,000 by 2020. The French government needs to invest about 10,000 euros for each Chinese student studying at its institutions. It will continue to make such investment and aims to develop a group of French friendly young Chinese graduates to help France benefit from China’s future economic development in the long term.
