We are excited to bring to you British Council’s new magazine for teachers and leaders interested in vocational education and skills.
Vocational Education Exchange is an online magazine and a platform for international co-operation in Skills. It provides skills leaders and practitioners from the UK and their overseas counterparts with a dedicated virtual space to share good practice and teaching and learning approaches and resources. It also provides a forum to discuss hot topics and find solutions collaboratively to support innovation and internationalisation of vocational education and skills.

The content of the magazine is sourced through open calls, which offers a range of opportunities for the contributing partners, colleges and organisations:
• it provides international exposure and opportunity for professional exchange and development;
• develops new approaches to education leadership and teaching and learning;
• improves quality through sharing best practices internationally;
• raises the profile and reputation of the skills organisations and provides opportunity to position them as global leaders;
• aligns international practices to prepare students for the global work market;
• builds knowledge and connections.

Around the world skills are becoming increasingly important for ensuring economic prosperity, social stability and workforce mobility. With youth unemployment topping 60% in some places in the Western Balkans, we chose to launch the magazine in this region to provide an opportunity for the UK vocational education sector to share its experience and good practice of tackling youth unemployment. Our ambition is to roll out the magazine to further regions and cover the globe within a year.

Our very first edition provides different perspectives on some of the challenges facing the vocational education sector in the UK. This includes insights from the Association of Colleges and Harrow College.
With thanks to our partner, the Education and Training Foundation, we feature an article from the UK’s National Foundation for Educational Research on what technical and vocational education should look like.
