The British Council has developed an IELTS scholarship scheme to support more students keen on pursuing an international education experience. Five successful applicants interested to attend an undergraduate or postgraduate programme with an IELTS recognised organisation overseas will receive this scholarship. The scholarship grant will be worth BDT 300,000 and students applying for higher education institutions in UK and other countries may apply for this scheme. Scholarship payments will be made to the attending higher educational institution directly to assist with the student’s tuition fees.
Eligibility criteria for applicants:
- Applicant needs to be a Bangladeshi citizen
- Applicant must apply to an overseas undergraduate or postgraduate programme in 2016/17 and has a valid offer letter
- Applicant must be willing to attend a higher educational institution that accepts IELTS as part of the admissions requirements
- Applicant needs to sit the IELTS test from 1 April 2016 till the test date of 1 December 2016 with any one of the British Council test centres
- Applicant needs to have a valid IELTS score, with a minimum overall band score of 6
- Applicant needs to provide the letter of acceptance/ offer from the attending institution by 12 December 2016.
Deadline for applications for the scholarship:
A hardcopy of the completed application form along with the written task and TRF (IELTS Test Report Form) must be received at the British Council Offices in Dhaka, Chittagong or Sylhet by 1 December 2016.
Application instruction:
- Applicant needs to take an IELTS test at a British Council Bangladesh Test Centre and receive their scores
- Download, complete and submit the application form
- Submit a copy of the IELTS Test Report Form
- Finish the writing task which needs to be submitted with the application form
- Completed application must be submitted at any of the British Council offices by 1 December 2016
- In the second stage, 20 applicants will be shortlisted based on their writing task submitted with the application. All successful applicants will be notified by email on 5 December 2016
- Short-listed applicants will be required to attend an interview by an assessment panel on 12 December 2016
- Five applicants will be awarded the scholarships worth 300,000 BDT based on their performance in the interview
- The final shortlisted applicants must bring a copy and the original letter of acceptance/ offer from the university they plan to attend
- Failure to provide a letter of acceptance/offer letter within the deadline may result in immediate withdrawal of the scholarship
- The winners of the scholarships will be notified by email on 14 December 2016.

UK Institutions are advised to inform about the scholarship scheme to the students who have already got and will get their offer letter for 2016/17. UK institutions can also promote the scholarship scheme through appropriate channels.
