According to the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, it will strengthen its supervision on international programmes in senior high schools in Beijing. It will also stop approving any additional international programmes in government senior high schools in 2014. The decision is in line with the recent requirement from the Ministry of Education on tightening up control over joint programmes in government senior high schools, and particularly those of low quality but who charge high tuition fees. Currently there are over ten joint programmes in government senior high schools, for example, Beijing National Day School has a dual diploma program with the Wasatch Academy in the US. The High School attached to Capital Normal University in Beijing has an international programme with the Germantown Academy in the US. The tuition fee for a student of a general high school in Beijing is RMB800 per term. By contrast, the tuition fee for a student in the international programme is about RMB50,000 to RMB100,000 per year.
